Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must be aware that India scripted history in May by vanquishing the powerhouses of badminton during Thomas & Uber Cup 2022!
For those of you who don’t know, this achievement is being hailed as Indian badminton’s ‘1983 moment’ because the badminton squad of India not only broke the 14-year long monopoly of Indonesia but also won the Thomas cup crown for the first time in 73 years!
One of the shuttlers who played an instrumental role in catalyzing this watershed moment in history of Indian sports was Lakshya Sen, 20-year old prodigy from Almora, Uttarakhand.
Be it demonstrating epic mastery over the sport by crushing legend like Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist & world number five player) or maintaining composure in high pressure matches, Lakshya put up a spectacular show throughout the prestigious badminton tournament & stationed India on path to victory.
Therefore, when the rising star of Indian badminton returned to the capital city of his home state, he was accorded a rousing welcome by Graphic Era deemed to be University. The top ranked university of the state had invited the young shuttler to inaugurate the badminton court of GEU and honor his contribution in bringing the coveted laurel home.
Dr. Kamal Ghanshala, Chairman, Graphic Era Group presented Lakshya with a reward of 11 lac rupees as a token of respect, announced to give 10 lakh rupees for preparations every year and reiterated his aim to support, motivate and nurture budding sports stars of the state.
The ace shuttler also engaged in a friendly match with Dr. Kamal Ghanshala during the short visit and commented that such love and respect motivates the players to move forward and achieve bigger goals.
Notably, Lakshya’s father and coach DK Sen, mother Nirmala Dhirendra Sen and Uttaranchal State Badminton Association secretary VN Mankoti were also honored in the felicitation ceremony organized by Graphic Era.
It is worth mentioning that Graphic Era, with the intention to expand the state’s sporting footprint and inspire the youth to take up sports, had showered the same honor and love on Vandana Kataria as well when she brought glory to Uttarakhand and nation in Tokyo Olympics.
